A History of Excellence and Forward-Thinking Solutions
We are a small family-run firm by choice, which allows us to give each of our clients the time and attention their unique concerns deserve. Robert and Catie remain committed to retaining the values of Seward & Seward’s founder, William E. Seward. We have keen eyes for detail and provide thorough, forward-thinking advice to our clients. Our clients receive curated advice from experienced lawyers who truly love their work and helping the clients they serve.
We are here to help.
Our firm provides legal expertise and excellent service to our clients: our founder, William E. Seward, left big firm practice because he wanted to connect to and help his community. Now run by Mr. Seward’s son, Robert, and granddaughter, Catie, our firm’s ethos remains unchanged. We enjoy a general practice, and as such, we counsel our clients through a wide range of legal issues. Below are some of our areas of concentration:
Real Estate Transactions: The decision to buy or sell your home one of the biggest decisions that you can make. We have closed over 10,000 real estate transactions for our clients—single family, multi-use, cooperatives, condominiums, commercial properties. Our diligence and eye for detail help ensure that our clients get to the closing table with “no surprises”.
Estate Planning: We use our decades of experience as we work with clients to craft customized estate plans—which can include Wills, Living Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, Living Wills, Health Care Proxies, and/or Powers of Attorney—that help ensure their assets are distributed according to their wishes, while minimizing the potential for tax consequences, family conflict, tension, or litigation. We will clearly explain your options for estate planning based on your unique circumstances, which will provide you and your family with a peace of mind.
Estate Administration: Losing a loved one is never easy. Dealing with that loved one’s estate plan (or lack thereof) can be daunting. We help our clients probate their loved one’s will, inventory assets, settle debts, administer trusts, prepare for and try to ward off potential litigation, consult about taxes, and aid with asset distribution to ensure that the process is as “pain free” as possible. Of course, in the unfortunate event that probate litigation becomes necessary, we provide vigorous representation for our clients in Surrogate’s Court.
Cooperative Representation: Seward & Seward has been representing cooperatives for decades, handling everything from refinances to reviewing and updating proprietary leases and house rules, from working with insurance companies to advising as to the legality and advisability of certain decisions before the boards. Cooperative law is unique, but we understand its nuances and proudly offer representation at a variety of levels, ranging from very “hands on” to simply performing as transfer agent during closings, depending upon the needs of the individual cooperative.
Business Law: We represent clients in a wide range of business matters across many different industries. We negotiate buy-sell agreements, advise as to corporate structure, help prepare and file corporate documents, and represent our clients as they navigate various contracts and potential partnerships or tenancies. Years of experience allow us to foresee potential issues and advise our clients accordingly, so they can focus on running their businesses and not on litigation.
